A few words about the owner of this website

Dr. Hulea has an extensive background in biochemistry and worked for over 25 years in basic and applied biomedical research. He graduated from the University of Bucharest, Romania with a B.Sc.(Hon) in Biochemistry and went further to complete his graduate work in the Department of Biochemistry, King's College London, U.K. where he earned a Ph.D. in Biochemistry.

Dr. Hulea has published several dozens of research papers on a variety of topics that included among others, microbial nucleic acids metabolism, the role of complex carbohydrate-binding proteins (lectins) as mediators of host-pathogen interactions, oxidative stress and antioxidant mechanisms in plant and animal cells. He also had a book published in 2008 titled: "An Introduction to Vitamins, Minerals and Oxidative Stress" directed at biomedical students and health care professionals.

In the field of applied research Dr. Hulea was involved in the early 1980s in the development of a human colostrum based product that was successfully used in the treatment of respiratory and digestive tract infections in infants and small children. He also took part in the development of a sea buckthorn-based extract that was used with very good results in the treatment of severe skin burns as well as some skin disorders.

In the early '90s Dr. Hulea was a visiting scholar in the laboratory of Professor Fred A. Kummerow in the Department of Food Science of the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign where he conducted research on the molecular mechanisms in cardiovascular disease. He was particularly interested in ways to protect the cholesterol carrying particles in blood plasma, i.e. low density lipoproteins (LDL) against oxidative stress. Oxidized LDL was shown to be an underlying factor in endothelial cell injury. This injury is the first step in the sequence of biochemical and morphological events that lead to atherosclerotic plaque formation. Once this stage is reached it is only a matter of time to stroke and all the consequences that follow...

Dr. Hulea has also been involved in teaching biochemistry and cell biology to undergraduate life sciences and medical students.

Currently, Dr. Hulea is involved in the design and development of life sciences educational software and ebooks on biochemistry as well as on health matters directed at the general public. He is also a nutritional consultant and a business owner helping people to maintain good health and improve their financial situation. He lives and works in Toronto, Canada.
